At Pacific Life, every employee’s journey is unique—and inspiring. Isabella’s story is especially remarkable for her bold relocation from the Newport Beach office to Omaha—a move that not only expanded her professional horizons but also enriched her personal growth. Embracing the challenges and opportunities of a new city, Isabella has built connections across both offices, discovered new communities, and found fresh inspiration in her work and life. From actuarial exams to marathons, Isabella’s journey is a testament to growth, collaboration, adaptability, and balance.
When did you start at Pacific Life, and what has your career path looked like?
I started my career at Pacific Life as an Actuarial Intern on the Consumer Markets Division’s Life Pricing team in 2023. That summer provided my first in-depth exposure to actuarial work and was a huge stepping stone in my career. After graduating from Pepperdine with a degree in Mathematics in 2024, I was incredibly grateful to return to Pacific Life for a full-time role. I’m now working as a Senior Actuarial Analyst on the Institutional Division’s Experience Study team and am progressing through my actuarial exams as part of Pacific Life’s Actuarial Student Program. It’s been rewarding to see how my exams directly complement the work I do each day.
Have you worked on any cross-functional or global initiatives?
I’m currently working on the OnePL mortality model project, an initiative between Pacific Life and Pacific Life Re to align and improve mortality modeling. This project has given me the chance to collaborate with new teams in both Pacific Life and Pacific Life Re. It’s been a great learning experience that has strengthened my technical skills and introduced me to colleagues across the business.
How has working in different offices influenced your career journey?
I began my career with Pacific Life in the Newport Beach office during my internship and first year of full-time work, and I recently relocated to Omaha. Having the chance to experience both offices has given me the best of both worlds and has been a major enhancement to my career journey.
As a lifelong Californian, moving to Nebraska was a big change, but it has been a rewarding one. I’ve enjoyed learning from the actuarial community in Omaha and collaborating with colleagues across both offices. I recently had the opportunity to return to Newport Beach for the annual Actuarial Conference, and it was great to reconnect with California teammates and continue building connections between offices.
Relocating has been a personal and professional opportunity to try new things, expand my network, and learn about new places and people. Outside of the office, I’ve loved exploring Omaha and discovering everything the city has to offer (Omaha colleagues have given me an abundance of suggestions!).
What do you enjoy most about working at Pacific Life?
My favorite part of working at Pacific Life is having well-rounded colleagues who are generous with their time, eager to learn, and energizing to be around. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to bond with teams in both Newport Beach and Omaha, and I always know I can count on the people at Pacific Life for support, collaboration, and encouragement. I appreciate how my colleagues strike the perfect balance between focused actuarial work and tearing up a pickleball court or scavenger hunt.

What hobbies or interests bring you joy outside of work?
My biggest passion outside of work is running! I am a big believer in setting goals in all areas of life to stay balanced–especially while studying for actuarial exams. This past spring, my siblings and I ran our first marathon with our dad at the LA Marathon, which was a challenging, but exciting goal to work toward together. I’ve also found that there is no shortage of runners at Pacific Life, and I had the best time running the Orange County Half Marathon with team Pacific Life in May.
Running is also my favorite way to explore a new city, which has been especially valuable in my move to Omaha. It helps me to unplug, balance my workdays, and spend time outdoors. I’ve had a great time exploring different trails and run clubs here, and I’m excited to have my family come out to Nebraska for a race sometime soon.
