Florida

On September 5, 2023, Florida Office of Insurance Regulation pushed out an emergency order dated September 1 as provided under cited administrative code triggered by the Governor’s preceding executive orders. Pacific Life will extend grace periods by 60 days for policyowners residing in the designated counties whose policies have lapsed or set to lapse during the effective period.

  • Effective period September 1, 2023 – October 31, 2023
  • Designated Counties: Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Brevard, Calhoun, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Nassau, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Volusia, and Wakulla counties.

Policyowners impacted by the disaster and are experiencing hardship related to the disaster should contact Pacific Life for assistance.

Hawaii

On August 19, 2023, the Governor of Hawaii issued a new proclamation related to the wildfires and extended the emergency relief period to October 17, 2023. The wildfire disasters in the affected areas resulted in the loss of life and property which created imminent health and safety risks.

The Insurance Commissioner is issuing noted Memorandum to encourage insurers selling insurance coverage in the State to be mindful of the residents who lost have lost their homes, businesses, and employment due to the wildfires in Hawaii and Maui counties, Hawaii. The Insurance Commissioner encourages insurers to work with their insureds to ensure coverage continues during this time and policies do not lapse. In accordance with the guidance requested by the Commissioner, Pacific Life asks that any policyholders that are affected by the disaster to contact Pacific Life for assistance:

  • Effective period August 16, 2023 – October 17, 2023
  • Designated Counties: Hawaii and Maui Counties (other areas, case-by-case)
  • Pacific Life will work with policyowners to offer lapse assistance and extend grace periods that fall within the effective period for policyowners residing in the counties of Hawaii and Maui.
  • Pacific Life will work with policyholders in repaying the premiums that would have become due during the 60-day period by either allowing a repayment plan or extension of repaying the amount in full.

Consideration will be given to other policyholders that may have been impacted by the disaster and are experiencing hardship related to the disaster. Policyholders should contact Pacific Life for assistance.

Indiana

On March 14, 2024, tornadoes impacted the state of Indiana resulting in the destruction of property and displacement of residents. In light of the IN DOI Bulletin 274 that requests insurers to offer contractual relief of affected citizens, Pacific Life will provide accommodations for certain impacted policyholders:

  • Moratorium period: March 13, 2024 – May 12, 2024
  • Designated Area: Delaware, Jefferson, and Randolph counties.
  • For policyholders residing in the designated areas whose policies have lapsed or are set to lapse during the effective period, Pacific Life will extend grace periods by 60 days from the date the reactivation letters are sent.
    • Policies that lapsed during the moratorium period: Pacific Life will automatically reinstate the policies and extend the Grace Period End (GPE) date to at least 60 days beyond the date when the reactivation letters are sent to policyholders. This is to ensure the policies’ GPE extends beyond May 12, 2024. Letters will be mailed to policyholders to inform them of this change.
    • Policies with GPE date in moratorium period: Pacific Life will automatically extend the GPE date by 60 days. Letters about this change will not be sent to policyholders. Lapsed notices will be mailed in routine at the end of the extended grace periods.
    • Policies that enter grace during the moratorium period: If a policy enters grace during the moratorium period and the GPE date was not within the moratorium, extensions will not take place and no letters will be mailed.

Tennessee

On December 9, 2023, devastating tornadoes impacted the state of Tennessee resulting in the destruction of property, displacement of Tennesseans, and loss of life. In light of the TN DOI Bulletin 23-06 that requests insurers to offer contractual relief of affected citizens, Pacific Life will provide accommodations for certain impacted policyholders:

  • Moratorium period: December 10, 2023 – February 8, 2024
  • Designated Area: Entire state
  • For policyowners residing in Tennessee whose policies have lapsed, Pacific Life will extend grace periods by 30 days from the date the reactivation letters are sent to the policyowners.

o   Policies that lapsed during the moratorium period: Due to the late notification of the disaster relief, most policies had lapsed prior to receipt of the notification. Pacific Life will reactivate the policies and extend the GPE date by 30 days past the date the reactivation letters are sent to policyowners.

o   Policies with GPE date in moratorium period: Pacific Life will automatically extend the GPE date by 30 days. Letters about this change will not be sent to the policyowner.

o   Policies that enter grace during the moratorium period: If a policy entered grace during the moratorium period and the GPE date was not within the moratorium, extensions did not take place and no letters were mailed.
