Pacific Life Announces Officer Promotions

 

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – April 3, 2020 – Pacific Life announced today the following officer promotions in recognition of their outstanding commitment and contribution to Pacific Life.

Robert Goodman to Vice President, CRM Program Owner, Corporate Division

Mr. Goodman began his career with Pacific Life in 2001 in the former Annuities Division, now Retirement Solutions Division (RSD). He has held positions of increasing responsibility within RSD Operations and was promoted to assistant vice president in 2013, leading the division’s Project Management Office. He assumed responsibility for the Salesforce CRM NextGen Program in 2018 and is responsible for the strategy of the enterprise customer relationship management function, while ensuring enterprise-wide execution across marketing, sales, service and technology functions. His promotion recognizes the impact of his leadership in advancing Pacific Life’s digital transformation initiative by building next generation business capabilities.

Hyung Kim to Vice President, Equity and Alternative Real Estate Investments, Real Estate Investments

Mr. Kim’s promotion recognizes the impact of his leadership role in the Real Estate Investments group. Beginning his career with Pacific Life in 1995, Mr. Kim held positions of increasing responsibility before being promoted to assistant vice president in 2007. In 2016, Mr. Kim was selected to oversee a new strategic initiative to grow the real estate equity portfolio. Through his leadership, the portfolio has grown to a market value of over $3 billion.

Cathy Jo Borgman to Assistant Vice President, Life Internal Sales Desk, Life Insurance Division

Beginning her career as an operations manager for Pacific Life in 2011, Ms. Borgman was promoted to director in 2015 overseeing the PremierCare sales desk. Ms. Borgman expanded her responsibilities, overseeing the Regional Life Offices and Internal Wholesaler desks, as well as a service team that supported Pacific Life’s digital initiative, Straight Up. In her role, she was instrumental in collecting learnings which were incorporated into future innovation initiatives. As assistant vice president, Ms. Borgman will continue to further the division’s sales desk culture and work to advance hybrid sales desk models.

Michelle Brown to Assistant Vice President, Business Insights, Life Insurance Division

Ms. Brown began her career with Pacific Life in 2014 as director of valuation in the Retirement Solutions Division. In 2019, she transitioned to the Life Insurance Division leading the GAAP targeted improvements initiative. As assistant vice president, Ms. Brown will mobilize and lead the execution of the division’s digital financial strategy, transforming the use of business insights throughout the business.

Nicole Hourigan to Assistant Vice President, Financial Operations, Life Insurance Division

Ms. Hourigan began her career with Pacific Life in 2003 as a senior process analyst and has held positions of increasing responsibility within the Life Insurance Division (LID) before being promoted to director of IT operations in 2012. In 2016, she transitioned to director of financial operations, overseeing the budget and expense management for LID. As assistant vice president, Ms. Hourigan will continue to lead the financial analysis and operations function in LID and have expanded responsibilities in managing the adjoining processes to this function, including cost benefits analysis for new project and benchmarking.

Adeel Qureshi to Assistant Vice President, Actuarial Product Design, Life Insurance Division

Joining Pacific Life in 2013 as a senior actuarial analyst, Mr. Qureshi has held positions of increasing responsibility before being promoted to director and actuary in 2018 to oversee an affluent market pricing team and provide actuarial support to the M distribution channel. With his promotion, Mr. Qureshi will have expanded responsibilities in leading inforce management, data analytics and digital transformation-related activities for product design in support of future product strategies.

Claude Davis to Assistant Vice President, Web, eCommerce and Integration, Retirement Solutions Division

Mr. Davis began his career with Pacific Life in 2014 and was promoted to director of application development in 2016, responsible for web application development, web systems analysis and data integration functions for Retirement Solutions Division technology. In his new role, Mr. Davis will assume responsibility for the e-commerce function and expansion of the digital integration platform initiative as part of the division’s digital transformation and registered investment advisor initiatives.

Diane Johnson to Assistant Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis, Retirement Solutions Division

Mrs. Johnson began her career with Pacific Life in 2011 as an accounting consultant in the Retirement Solutions Division (RSD) and has held positions of increasing responsibility within finance before being promoted to director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) in 2016 in recognition of her work to build the RSD FP&A function. She is responsible for overseeing quarterly financial reporting and analysis, board and audit committee reporting, and the reporting and analysis of the division’s annual plan. She is also responsible for driving extensive automation and process optimization efforts related to financial reporting and analysis in support of RSD strategic initiatives. As assistant vice president, Mrs. Johnson will continue to lead the division’s FP&A function and expand her responsibilities in financial forecasting and real-time management reporting.

Brian Berg to Assistant Vice President, CRM Technology Platform Owner, Corporate Division

Mr. Berg began his career with Pacific Life in 2015 as an applications development manager in the Retirement Solutions Division (RSD). In 2017, he was promoted to oversee RSD sales technology. He joined the Salesforce Center of Excellence in 2018 as platform director for the technology team responsible for guiding the direction and vision of the Salesforce CRM NextGen technical solutions and capabilities across RSD and the Life Insurance Division. His promotion recognizes the impact of his leadership role in setting the direction and managing this key technology function for the Salesforce digital transformation initiative in support of advancing Pacific Life’s digital transformation efforts.

Lisa Berger to Assistant Vice President, Communications, Corporate Division

Beginning her career with Pacific Life in 1999 as an applications programming analyst, Ms. Berger has held positions of increasing responsibility before assuming the role of director, Enterprise Collaboration Systems in 2009. In 2012, she moved to Human Resources as an employee communications specialist and was promoted to director of communications in 2014. Her responsibilities have expanded to oversee all internal communications, including the strategic communication of Pacific Life’s transformation effort, Horizon 2025. Her promotion recognizes the impact of her leadership in setting the direction and managing this key function for the organization.

Amie Chen to Assistant Vice President, Tax, Corporate Division

As director of tax accounting and technology, Ms. Chen joined Pacific Life in 2017 and oversees the day-to-day activities of the tax department’s tax compliance and tax accounting functions. She is also responsible for driving the tax transformation program in support of Pacific Life's Horizon 2025 strategic objectives. Her promotion to assistant vice president recognizes the impact of her leadership role.

Malcolm Gordon to Assistant Vice President, Operational Risk Management, Corporate Division

Mr. Gordon began his career with Pacific Life in 2016 as a project manager consultant in Corporate Information Technology and was promoted to director of operational risk management in 2017. In this role, Mr. Gordon’s responsibilities include leading the development of operational risk management and the integrated risk platform project, both of which are top enterprise-wide initiatives for Enterprise Risk Management. His promotion to assistant vice president recognizes the impact of his leadership.

Michael Gross to Assistant Vice President, Peer and Ratings Analysis, Corporate Division

Mr. Gross began his career with Pacific Life in 2018 and is responsible for overseeing rating agency relationships, peer performance analysis and select reporting to senior management and the board. His promotion to assistant vice president recognizes the impact of his leadership.

David Bird to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analysis, Investment Management

As director credit analysis on the investment management team since 2014, Mr. Bird was promoted to senior director of credit analysis in 2018. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing credit analysis for the general account’s $4.8 billion bank and finance portfolio. As assistant vice president, Mr. Bird will add coverage of the insurance sector to his existing responsibilities, overseeing credit analysis for an additional $1.8 billion of Pacific Life’s investments.

Stephen Cheuk to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analysis, Investment Management

Mr. Cheuk began his career with Pacific Life in 2014 as a manager of credit analysis on the investment management team in the Corporate Division and held positions of increasing responsibility before being promoted to senior director of credit analysis in 2018. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing credit analysis for the general account’s $9.2 billion utilities portfolio. As assistant vice president, he will continue his responsibilities for the utilities portfolio and will join the newly formed infrastructure team to build a pipeline of infrastructure investments totaling approximately $1 billion annually.

Andrew Lurker to Assistant Vice President, Underwriting, Real Estate Investments

Mr. Lurker’s 12 years of service with Pacific Life began as a real estate investment analyst in a regional field office. During his tenure with the company, Mr. Lurker held positions of increasing responsibility before being promoted to director of real estate underwriting in 2015 and then senior director in 2019. In this role, he is responsible for delivering analytical support and direction to commercial real estate investment decisions across the real estate investments platform. As assistant vice president, Mr. Lurker will lead the real estate underwriting function.
