Mr. Stowell joined the Irvine, California-based Standard Pacific Homes in 1986 as a project manager in the Orange County Division and, in 1993, became vice president of Project Development. In April 1996, he was promoted to president of the Orange County Division, overseeing one of Standard Pacific's defining divisions in which the array of product grew significantly during his tenure. In September 2002, he was named president of the Southern California Region. In this capacity, he oversaw the homebuilding operations within the Orange County, Inland Empire, San Diego, Los Angeles, Ventura, Bakersfield, and Central Valley divisions. In May 2007, Mr. Stowell was named chief operating officer of Standard Pacific Corp and was named president in March 2011. On January 1, 2012, Mr. Stowell was named chief executive officer. Nationally recognized as a luxury homebuilder, Standard Pacific Homes caters to the move-up buyer segment with homebuilding operations in 25 of the country's top housing markets. The company has earned a reputation in the homebuilding industry as a leader in providing innovative architectural designs, quality craftsmanship and an excellent customer experience.
On October 5, 2015, Standard Pacific and Ryland Group completed their merger and creation of CalAtlantic Group Inc, with Mr. Stowell being named Executive Chairman of the Board.
Prior to joining Standard Pacific Homes, Mr. Stowell worked with The Irvine Company, first as manager, Product Development and Market Research where he identified product positioning and market conditions for new master planned communities. Later, as project analyst, he was responsible for negotiating land sales with outside builders.
Beyond his work at CalAtlantic Group, Inc., Homes, Mr. Stowell is actively involved in the Building Industry Association and has served on the executive committee and the board of directors. He serves as HomeAid America's chairman of the board of directors and on the advisory boards of the Orange County Management Association and Pretend City Children's Museum. He is also on the Policy Advisory Board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate at the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.

Mr. Stowell currently serves as a director of Pacific Mutual Holding Company, and serves on the Compensation and Personnel Committee, the Member Interests Committee, and the Investment, Finance, and Financial Market Risk Committee.
