Business History
Mr. Shepherd is chairman and chief executive officer of Bank of the West and BancWest Corporation, the parent company of Bank of the West and First Hawaiian Bank. He was president and chief executive officer of Bank of the West from 2008-2010 and president and chief operating officer from 2006-2008. Mr. Shepherd joined the bank in 2004 as executive vice president and general counsel. Prior to joining Bank of the West, Mr. Shepherd served as general counsel of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and of Shawmut National Corporation. He was a partner in the San Francisco law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, LLP and special counsel to Sullivan & Cromwell. In addition, Mr. Shepherd has served as senior deputy comptroller of the currency, associate counsel to the President of the United States, and deputy assistant attorney general.


Mr. Shepherd is a member of the board of directors of Bank of the West, First Hawaiian Bank, and BancWest Corporation. He serves as a director of Promontory Interfinancial Network and the Presidio Trust. In addition, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Financial Services Roundtable, and the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board.

Mr. Shepherd currently serves as a director of both Pacific Mutual Holding Company and Pacific LifeCorp, and serves on the Compensation & Personnel Committee (chairman) and the Investment, Finance, and Financial Market Risk Committee.
