Van Eck Associates Corporation is a subsidiary of Van Eck Global. Founded in 1955, Van Eck Global was one of the first U.S. money managers to specialize in global investing. Based in mid-town New York, the firm currently manages mutual funds, variable insurance trusts, separate accounts and hedge funds with a focus on hard assets and emerging markets.

Investment Philosophy

The Van Eck hard assets strategy invests among a highly diverse pool of hard asset markets – including real estate, precious and industrial metals, oil and gas, and commodity derivatives.

Van Eck’s hard assets products are managed with a value-oriented investment style, encompassing both bottom-up and top-down analysis. There are broad cycles in the hard assets sectors that are pivotal to successful investing. Used in conjunction with top-down analysis, a thorough knowledge of these cycles allows the investment team to efficiently allocate between these sectors (real estate, precious metals, oil and gas, etc.) – taking the guesswork out of the equation for investors. Further, the investment team combines its thorough qualitative knowledge of the companies and assets the portfolios invest in with model-assisted quantitative analysis. This time-tested combination has proven essential in delivering consistent returns with a disciplined and repeatable investment process.

Van Eck has specialized in natural resource investing since 1968, when it offered this country’s first gold mutual fund. Since that time, the company has greatly expanded its scope of investment products to encompass a multitude of hard asset markets. The firm has one of the most experienced investment teams devoted solely to the natural resources asset class.

Data as of December 31, 2006.

Hard assets investments include special risks such as variations in the value of real estate, the value of precious metals and other hard assets securities. Hard assets prices may move independently of the trends of industrial companies. Speacial risks such as currency fluctuations and political changes should be considered with international investing.

Although some portfolios may have names or investment objectives that resemble retail mutual funds managed by the portfolio manager, these portfolios will not have the same underlying holdings or performance as the retail mutual funds.

Investors should carefully consider the underlying fund investment objectives, risks, charges, and limitations and expenses of a variable universal life insurance policy.  The accompanying prospectuses contain this and other information about Pacific Life.  Read them carefully before investing or sending money.
