ClearBridge Advisors is a new asset management company introduced by Legg Mason, Inc. in early 2006, several months after Legg Mason acquired Citigroup Asset Management. With Citigroup Asset Management's U.S. Equity Group serving as the foundation of our organization, ClearBridge's seasoned investment professionals focus exclusively on managing equities across all market capitalizations and a variety of investing styles. As one of Legg Mason's asset management "centers of excellence," ClearBridge operates with investment independence - maintaining our own investment strategies, philosophies and investment decision-making authority. Philosophy and Process
Proprietary research is at the heart of our investment process. At ClearBridge Advisors, our experienced portfolio managers each have their own distinct investment processes and priorities when managing their portfolios, but they all share a fundamental approach to security selection and valuation analysis. Our specialized research team serves as a crucial shared resource, helping managers to both find potential new investments and to conduct constant surveillance of their current portfolio holdings. In general, our research focuses on analyzing a company's balance sheet, income statement and cash flows, and uses fundamental inputs to model future results. These inputs are based on discussion with an analysis of customers, suppliers, distributors and competitors in the industry. Many of our portfolio managers have strong backgrounds in fundamental analysis themselves, and will typically conduct their own research and analysis in addition to what our analysts produce, including regular interaction with senior corporate management teams.
Management
ClearBridge offers the services of experienced portfolio managers who focus exclusively on equities covering all major market capitalizations and a wide range of equity-focused disciplines. In many cases, portfolio managers who built a portfolio's performance record over several decades continue to manage those assets today. Our managers are supported by a shared research infrastructure, which ensures the quick dissemination of information and encourages collaboration with analysts. At the same time, portfolio managers follow the distinct style of investing and wisdom each has gained through decades of market experience.
