Newport Beach, Calif. (March 30, 2006) -- Pacific Life Insurance Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas C. Sutton recently announced the promotions of Adrianne A. Berube, CPA, to Assistant Vice President, Asset/Liability Strategies; Jim Y. Chu, FSA, to Assistant Vice President, Product Design; Martin J. Fleischman to Assistant Vice President, Separate Accounts; Jane M. Guon to Assistant Vice President and Assistant Secretary; Shelly J. Higgins to Assistant Vice President, Accounting and Reporting; Gregory L. Keeling, CPA, to Assistant Vice President, Finance & Accounting; Darcy L. Lewis to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analyst; Alice P. Terlecky to Assistant Vice President, New Business Services; John Waldeck to Assistant Vice President, Real Estate Underwriting; and Keith Werschke, FSA, to Assistant Vice President, IMD Actuarial.
Ms. Berube had five years of experience as an auditor with a large accounting firm when she joined Pacific Life in 1999 as a Senior Securities Accounting Analyst. She was promoted to Manager, Securities Accounting and Reporting in 2000 and to Derivatives Consultant in the Asset/Liability Strategies area in 2004. As Assistant Vice President, Asset/Liability Strategies, she is responsible for portfolio strategy and structure for the general account, and for day-to-day operations relating to derivatives transactions. She is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. Ms. Berube resides in Laguna Beach.
Mr. Chu joined Pacific Life in 2002 as a Product Design Consultant in the Life Insurance Division, following more than 10 years of experience as an actuarial associate and manager. He became Director, Product Design, in 2005, and was the lead actuary for the design and development of the Division's Equity Indexed Universal Life product. In his position as Assistant Vice President, he is responsible for leading a team that designs and prices new products to help keep the company competitive in the changing marketplace. Mr. Chu has a Bachelor's Degree in Math and Economics from Portland State University in Oregon. Mr. Chu resides in Costa Mesa.
Mr. Fleischman, a resident of San Clemente, came to Pacific Life in 1994 with 12 years of previous experience in the financial services industry. He joined the company as a Regional Sales Director in the Chicago office for the Pension Investments Division, selling and marketing pension products directly to plan sponsors and investment consultants. He moved to the Home Office in 1997 and joined the Business Development area soon after. He was promoted to Accumulation Products Director in 2002. As Assistant Vice President, Separate Accounts, he is responsible for developing, marketing, pricing, and generating new business in the Investment Management Division's separate account investment product lines. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA in Finance, Investments, and Banking, also from the University of Wisconsin.
Ms. Guon joined Pacific Life in 1995 as Assistant Corporate Secretary in the Corporate Law department, following eight years of experience as a paralegal. In that position, she provided assistance for the company and its subsidiary companies in the areas of corporate governance matters, director, officer, and shareholder matters, and compliance and regulatory matters. She was promoted to Corporate Secretarial Consultant in 2002. As Assistant Vice President, she is responsible for directing the conduct and protocol of the shareholder, board, and board committee meetings, and matters of Pacific Life and its affiliates and subsidiary entities. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, and is a certified paralegal. Ms. Guon currently resides in Irvine.
Ms. Higgins, a resident of Dana Point, joined Pacific Life as Variable Products Accounting Manager in 1993 with nine years of variable product financial reporting experience. In that role she had responsibility for overseeing financial reporting and accounting issues for several families of mutual funds and registered investment company separate accounts. She became Accounting Manager in the Corporate Division in 1995 and was named Director of Accounting in 2000. As Assistant Vice President, Accounting and Reporting, she is responsible for the preparation of company-wide quarterly and year-end financial reports. She also provides technical accounting guidance, directs the preparation of year-end audited GAAP and audited Statutory financial statements, is responsible for Corporate Division accounting, and oversees the design and maintenance of general ledger and data warehouse IT systems. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Economics/Accounting from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Mr. Keeling joined Pacific Life in 1999 as a Financial Administrator in the Annuities Division, following four years of audit experience with a large accounting firm. He was responsible for special projects for the finance group, including testing and implementation issues associated with new products. He was promoted to Financial Accounting Manager in 1999 and Director of Finance in 2001. In his current role as Assistant Vice President, Finance & Accounting, he is responsible for directing the Annuities & Mutual Funds Division's accounting and finance function, including financial reporting, long-term planning, expense management, and budgets. He directs the fixed account analysis, which includes asset/liability management, cash flow analysis, and asset yield reviews. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Keeling currently resides in Corona del Mar.
Ms. Lewis, a resident of Corona del Mar, joined Pacific Life in 1989 as an Employment Assistant in Human Resources. She worked as an analyst in the Benefits and Compensation areas prior to transferring to the Securities Division in 1996, as NAIC Coordinator. After moving to an investment analyst role in 1998, she was promoted to Senior Investment Analyst in 2000 and Investment Manager in 2002. In her role as Assistant Vice President, Credit Analysis, Investment Management Division, she is responsible for managing and analyzing the credit risk of the company's public securities and private placements. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
A resident of San Clemente, Ms. Terlecky joined Pacific Life in 1995 as a Training Specialist in the Life Insurance Division. She had 20 years of prior experience in insurance and financial services. She was responsible for the orientation and training of employees in the Policy Benefits and Services area of the Life Division. She was promoted to Customer Service Manager in 1997, Director of Customer Service in 2001, and Director of New Business Services in 2003. As Assistant Vice President, New Business Services, she is responsible for developing, implementing, and controlling procedures and processes within the New Business department to ensure that a superior level of service is provided to customers, and that operational efficiencies are in place to enhance productivity and cost savings. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French from UCLA and a Master's Degree in Business Administration with a specialty in International Management from the American Graduate School.
Mr. Waldeck, a resident of Ladera Ranch, joined the Real Estate Division of Pacific Life in 1997 as a Network Support Analyst, after working for four years as a technical manager and technology consultant. He was promoted to Senior Real Estate Analyst in 2001 and Manager of Real Estate Underwriting in 2002. As Assistant Vice President, Real Estate Underwriting, he provides direction for underwriting, analytical and structuring support for real estate debt investments produced within the Real Estate Division. He also directs the training and development of investment analysts/coordinators within the Underwriting area. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management Science Information Systems from the California State University, Fullerton, and a MBA from the University of California, Irvine.
Mr. Werschke had seven years of actuarial experience prior to joining Pacific Life in 1998 as an actuarial assistant in the Life Insurance Division. In 2000, he was promoted to actuarial consultant. He transferred to the Institutional Products Division in 2001 as Asset/Liability Management Consultant and was promoted to Actuarial Director in 2005. In his role as Assistant Vice President, IMD Actuarial, he establishes statutory, GAAP, and tax reserves for the Investment Management Division's liabilities, and prepares asset adequacy analysis and actuarial certifications of reserves as required by the NAIC and other regulators. He also provides technical support to annuity and accumulation product lines with respect to product development and filing initiatives and manages asset/liability risk for the division. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Mr. Werschke currently resides in Laguna Hills.
