Newport Beach, Calif. (March 23, 2006) -- Pacific Life Insurance Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas C. Sutton announced the promotions of Edward R. Byrd, to Senior Vice President, Controller & Chief Accounting Officer; Joseph Celentano to Senior Vice President, Product Management; Richard J. Schindler to Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer; John Torell, CPA, to Vice President, Accounting & Reporting; and John White to Vice President, Internal Wholesaling.
Mr. Byrd joined Pacific Life in 1990 as Assistant Vice President of Audit in the Corporate Division, following 12 years of management experience in audit, internal control, and general accounting with a public accounting firm. He was promoted to VP Corporate Audit/Financial Planning in 1991, and has held positions of increasing responsibility. In 1992 he was named VP Controller and in 2003 was given the added title of Chief Accounting Officer to recognize the expanding significance of his responsibility for accounting and financial matters throughout the company. In his role as Senior Vice President, Controller & Chief Accounting Officer, he oversees accounting and financial reporting for the entire enterprise, including regulatory financial filings. He is also chair of the company's disclosure committee and a principal contact for accounting and financial reporting matters with independent auditors, rating agencies, and regulators. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the California State University, Fullerton, and is a licensed C.P.A. in the state of California. Mr. Byrd is a resident of Yorba Linda.
Mr. Celentano, a resident of Mission Viejo, joined the Guaranteed Investments area of Pacific Life in 1992 with five years of previous experience in pension product management. As AVP, Product Management, he was responsible for the design, development, and implementation, as well as the ongoing management of accumulation products. He was named Vice President, Product Management, in 1999. In his new role as Senior Vice President, Product Management, he is responsible for research, design, marketing, pricing, and operations and administration of the Investment Management Division's products, which include GICs and synthetic GICs, funding agreements, institutional annuities, and separate accounts. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marist College in New York, and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
Mr. Schindler began his career at Pacific Life in 1990 after working for several insurance carriers over a 20-year period. He was the Branch Manager in Pacific Life's Kansas City Branch Office and then Vice President, Branch Office System, overseeing the successful merger of the NASD and Branch Office channels into the Regional Life Offices in 2002. His most recent position was Vice President, Independent Producer Channel. In his new role as Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, he is responsible for all sales and marketing areas in the Life Insurance Division, including the Independent Producer Channel, Wirehouse, M Marketing, Marketing Services, Product Development, Meetings and Recognition, and Sales and Marketing Operations. He attended the University of Missouri and is currently a resident of Mission Viejo.
A resident of Orange, Mr. Torell joined Pacific Life in 1997 as a Financial Accounting Manager in the Securities Division, following six years of experience at a major public accounting firm. His responsibilities included managing statutory accounting, derivative accounting, and managerial reporting, as well as providing statutory and GAAP accounting expertise to all areas of accounting in Securities. He was promoted to Director in 1998 and in 1999, he was named AVP, Securities Accounting & Reporting. His current responsibilities as Vice President include oversight for all GAAP, Tax and SAP accounting, reporting, and planning functions for the Investment Management Division. Mr. Torell has a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a licensed CPA in the state of California.
Mr. White, a resident of San Juan Capistrano, began his career with Pacific Life as a Marketing Services Representative in the Annuities Division in 1994. His prior experience included service in the Marine Corps and six years in sales and marketing. He was promoted to Marketing Services Manager in 1996, Marketing Services Director in 1997, and AVP Internal Wholesaling in 1999. In his role as Vice President, Internal Wholesaling, he is responsible for managing all aspects associated with the internal wholesaling department of the Annuities & Mutual Funds Division, generating sales via telephone and online presentations. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Drexel University in Pennsylvania.
