PACIFIC LIFE FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTES OVER $3.5 MILLION IN ANNUAL GRANTS
AT A RECEPTION TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY
$4.2 Million Committed for 2007
Newport Beach, Calif. – (Jan. 29, 2007) – For the fifteenth consecutive year, nearly 200 nonprofit agencies primarily serving Orange County, CA, gathered at an afternoon reception held at Pacific Life’s headquarters in Newport Beach. The agencies received grants ranging from $2,500 to $133,000. The Pacific Life Foundation distributed over $3.5 million at the event and has committed to spend a total of $4.2 million for 2007.
“Since 1993, we have made a special effort every year to gather together diverse non-profit agencies and honor them for the service and work they provide in our communities,” said Robert G. Haskell, president of the Pacific Life Foundation. “The reception is not only a great opportunity for the Foundation to interact with those receiving our grants, but it also provides an atmosphere in which nonprofit leaders can interact with their peers.”
In attendance at the celebratory event were nonprofit agencies focused on the areas of arts and culture; civic, community, and environment; education; and health and human services.
The majority of the grants range from $2,500 to $10,000; however, 19 agencies received grants greater than $10,000. The grants include:
- A $133,000 grant that completed the Foundation’s pledge of $366,000 to Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County, a pediatric dental center in Garden Grove that serves uninsured children from low-income families. Included with this program is the purchase of a van (see page 3), a mobile dental clinic, and funding for school-based dental services.
- A $100,000 grant was committed to AccessOC, a new program whose goal is to mobilize a network of medical volunteers, hospitals, and referring community clinics in Orange County to provide the uninsured with donated surgical outpatient procedures that significantly improve their health, ability to work, and quality of life. This grant is part of a $350,000 pledge which will be completed in 2010.
- A grant of $50,000 (towards a $100,000 pledge) was awarded to the Discovery Science Center to support DinoQuest, a unique interactive electronic exhibit, as well as an online educational, science-focused program that enables students from anywhere in Southern California – or the world – to participate in science learning experiences.
