Strengths of Analytic Investors, LLC & J.P. Morgan Investment Management, Inc. Combined in Pacific Life's New Long/Short Large-Cap Investment Option
Aliso Viejo, CA. (May 28, 2008) – The fundamental method or the quantitative method? Traditionally, long/short investment strategies followed one or the other. Now, both methods can be accessed in one investment option – the Long/Short Large-Cap, the newest in a wide variety of choices available through variable life insurance and variable annuity products from Pacific Life Insurance Company and Pacific Life & Annuity Company.
The Long/Short Large-Cap investment option offers access to the insight and experience of two leading fund managers: Analytic Investors, LLC and J.P. Morgan Investment Management, Inc.
“We are the only life insurance company offering a multi-manager approach to long/short investing,” said Alyce Peterson, vice president of marketing services for the Life Insurance Division. “We recognized that investors wanted this type of investment option as an alternative source of returns. As we researched fund managers, we found that managers used either one methodology or the other. By having two managers, the two disciplines are employed within one investment option and our clients can benefit from both methods.”
According to Kathleen McWard, vice president of marketing for the companies’ Annuities and Mutual Funds Division, the Long/Short Large-Cap option is also included in all five models of Portfolio Optimization, a strategic asset allocation service offered to variable life insurance and annuity owners. “The Long/Short strategy is a complement to the asset classes in all of our models. Our clients can appreciate the additional diversification,” she explained.
A variable life insurance policy is primarily purchased to provide death benefit protection. Additionally, owning a policy requires decisions about diversifying your net premiums and accumulated value among the product’s variable and fixed investment options.
Variable annuities are long-term investments designed for retirement. The value of the variable investment options will fluctuate, and when redeemed, may be worth more or less than the original cost. Withdrawals and other distributions of taxable amounts, including death benefit payouts, will be subject to ordinary income tax. If withdrawals and other distributions are taken prior to age 59 ½, a 10% federal tax penalty may apply. A withdrawal charge may also apply. Withdrawals will reduce the value of the death benefit and any optional benefits.
