Business History Mr. McMillan's career began in 1975 as an actuarial assistant at Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance in Los Angeles. He left in 1977 to attend graduate school and in 1982 was appointed assistant professor of finance at the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Irvine where he taught economics and finance. In 1989, he moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the United States Securities & Exchange Commission as a financial economist preparing financial market regulatory and policy studies. In 1991, he returned to Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance where he was responsible for asset-liability management of the universal life, term life, and whole life insurance products.
Mr. McMillan joined Pacific Life in 1995 as an assistant vice president of Asset/Liability Management and was elected vice president in 1997. In 2000, he was promoted to senior vice president of Risk/Financial Management where he oversaw the Institutional Products Division's budget, business plans, and strategic direction. In 2005, he was appointed chief risk officer for Pacific Life and is responsible for the company’s Enterprise Risk Management department.
